Admitted Students

Congratulations on your acceptance and welcome to NYIT! We look forward to seeing you on campus.

Before you begin your studies here, here is a quick to-do list:

  • Secure your place in the upcoming class: Complete the Enrollment Reply Form in your acceptance package as soon as possible-preferably before May 1 for the fall semester. The $400 non-refundable deposit will secure your place.
  • Decide if you will live at NYIT: Each NYIT campus offers residential facilities. To live on campus, you must complete a Residential Hall Application and submit a $275 deposit. Download application (PDF).
  • Take placement exams/register for courses:
Freshman students are required to take placement exams in the summer if they are beginning in the fall and in January if they're starting in the spring semester. After completing the exam, all new students will meet with their Student Solutions manager to register for classes and discuss their plans for the upcoming semester. To schedule an appointment for the exam, call 516.686.7444 or register online.

Transfer students must meet with their academic advisor to register (list of academic advisors). Transfer students who do not receive NYIT transfer credit for English or math must take a placement exam.
  • Activate your NYITConnect account: Once you are admitted for classes, you can activate your NYITConnect user name and create a password for NYIT MyMail (your NYIT e-mail account) and NYITConnect, which allows you to conduct academic and financial business with NYIT. Your NYIT e-mail is the main form of communication with students about academic and college-wide notices and/or changes, and NYITConnect, allows you to register for classes, obtain grades, and academic progress reports. You can also forward your NYIT e-mail to your personal e-mail account.
  • Get your financial aid package: NYIT offers more than $26 million in scholarships and financial aid each year. To be eligible for merit-based, state, or federal assistance, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete it online at www.fafsa.ed.gov . NYIT's FAFSA school code is 002782. NYIT's state TAP code is 2120.
  • Come for a tour: The Office of Admissions offers tours of campus and residential facilities all year. Preview Day in April gives admitted students and their families a chance to check out NYIT's campuses, classrooms, residential and dining facilities, and clubs. Admitted students can also be an NYIT "Student for a Day." NYIT also offers Open House events in the fall semester that are open to admitted students and the public. If you would like to visit sooner, we are happy to give you a tour and have you meet with an admissions counselor. For information on these opportunities, please call 800.345.NYIT or e-mail us.
  • High school diploma: Since your admission to NYIT is contingent upon successful completion of course work in progress, it is your responsibility to ensure final official transcripts are filed with the Office of Admissions. Evidence of high school diploma and graduation date is required of all incoming undergraduate students.
  • Immunizations: NYIT requires that all students show proof of immunizations before they can attend classes. Please complete the Student Immunization Form (PDF download) and mail it to NYIT.
  • Explore on- and off-campus job opportunities at the Office of Student Employment. You must use your NYIT e-mail to obtain information related to job openings and to obtain time sheets for your paychecks. Call the Manhattan Office of Student Employment at 212.261.1688 or the Old Westbury Office of Student Employment at 516.686.7606.
