New York State Scholarships for Academic Excellence
Each year New York State awards 2,000 scholarships of $1,500, and 6,000 scholarships of $500 to top scholars from registered New York State high schools. If you are entering a program that qualifies as a 5-year program you will probably be awarded this scholarship for the fifth year as well.
To qualify you must be a New York resident and have U.S. Citizenship. You must also be full time and be matriculated in an approved undergraduate program of study in a New York State post secondary institution. You must not be in default on any loans guaranteed by HESC. And you must be in good academic standing.

Vermont Incentive Grant
Any Vermonter accepted or enrolled in an undergraduate degree or certificate program that will be attending college full-time, and doesn't already have a bachelor's degree, is eligible to apply for a Vermont Incentive Grant. They can be used at schools either within Vermont or out-of-state. To apply, complete a Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) and a Vermont Grant Application. You can complete both the FAFSA and the Vermont Grant Application. Go to VSAC and complete application as soon as possible because this grant is awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
AES Engineers Scholarship
The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students. To be eligible the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that they will find on our site. Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted.

AICPA Accounting Scholarship Opportunities
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the national professional organization for Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the United States. The AICPA supports several scholarship programs for undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in business and accounting. Listed below are descriptions of each program. Eligibility criteria and application forms are available online.
John L. Carey Scholarship - ten $5,000 scholarships to liberal arts degree holders who are preparing to enter a graduate accounting program.
Deadline: April 1, 2008
AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students - financial awards of up to $5,000 to undergraduate and graduate minority accounting students.
Deadline: June 2, 2008
AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students - awards nearly 20 minority doctoral students up to $12,000 each to increase the number of accounting educators who are also CPAs.
Deadline: April 1, 2008
AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship - five $2,500 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in accounting, finance or information systems.

National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Scholarship
The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) encourages and supports senior high school students, GED graduates, undergraduate students, and educators who are committed to furthering their education and enhancing their careers in the restaurant and food service industry by awarding scholarships through it Scholarships Program. In the past nine years, the NRAEF has awarded more than $9 million to qualified and deserving students. All applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America or be a resident of American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin islands. - Be a college student who is currently enrolled full-time or substantial part-time (minimum of 9 credit hours) in an accredited culinary school, college, or university.
- Have completed at least one grading term of your college or post-secondary program.
- Have earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
- Be enrolled for two consecutive semesters or not be entering your last semester before graduating.
Application Deadlines: March 31, 2008, July 31, 2008, October 31, 2008
Scholarship Amount: $2,000
2. Academic Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
This scholarship is for students pursuing a certificate, associate's degree or bachelor's degree in a restaurant and/or food service-related program.
Applicants must:
- Be a college student who is currently enrolled full-time or substantial part-time (minimum of 9 credit hours) in an accredited culinary school, college, or university.
- Have completed at least one grading term of your college or post-secondary program.
- Have earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
- Have minimum of 750 hours of restaurant or food service-related work experience verified through pay check stubs or letters.
- Be enrolled for two consecutive semesters or not be entering your last semester before graduating.
Application Deadlines: March 31, 2008, July 31, 2008, October 31, 2008
Scholarship Amount: $2,000
3. Academic Scholarships for High School Seniors and GED Graduates
This scholarship is for high school seniors and GED graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to both a post-secondary food service education and a career in the restaurant and food service industry.
Applicants Must:
- Be a graduating high school senior OR have earned a GED certificate but not be a current undergraduate student.
- Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent) OR a GED average standard score of 470 or higher.
- Have a minimum of 250 hours of restaurant or food service-related work experience.
- Be accepted and plan to enroll as a full-time or substantial part0time (minimum of 9 credit hours) student in an accredited culinary school, college, or university.
- Major in culinary arts or food service management.
- Plan to remain in school for at least two terms.
Application Deadline: May 16, 2008

4. Scholarships for ProStart National Certificate of Achievement Students
This scholarship is for students who have earned a ProStart National Certificate of Achievement by participating on the ProStart program.
Applicants must:
- Be a graduating high school senior or high school junior.
- Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
- Have received a ProStart National Certificate of Achievement between September 1, 2007 and August 14, 2008.
Application Deadline: August 15, 2008
Scholarship Amount: $2,000
American Business Women's Association (ABWA) Scholarship
The goals of ABWA are to promote the professional, educational, cultural and social advancement of business professionals. ABWA offers tangible assistance by investing in their education. Since its founding as a national association on September 22, 1949, the American Business Women's Association has contributed more than 50 million dollars to the education of professionals. During the past 20 years, the Sunrise East Chapter of ABWA has distributed over $50,000 in scholarship awards.
In order to qualify, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Candidates must reside in Nassau County
- Candidates should be in good academic standing (maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or better)
- Candidates must be enrolled in an institute of higher education, vocational or technical school for the fall of 2008.
- There are additional requirements which applicants will be advised of at the time of applying.
Equal consideration will also be given to anyone returning to school to further their education.
